SMP Is The Answer

Scalp Micropigmentation is an innovative, non-invasive technique for camouflaging hair loss in men and women. Using a specialized S.M.P machine, tiny impressions of pigment are implanted into the clients scalp. These impressions mimic the appearance of closely shaven hair follicles.  The result is a very natural, youthful appearance that restores the clients hairline and leaves them feeling confident. This treatment is non surgical. Some mistake it for a hair transplant but it is a costmetic tattoo. Anyone suffering from hairloss can benifit from SMP. This includes men and women who suffer from male or female pattern baldness (a.k.a. androgenetic alopecia), scarring, burns, birthmarks or any other resons for hair loss. SMP works for all ages, skin types and skin colours.

Scalp Micropigmentation

is Perfect for…

Male Pattern Hair Loss

SMP is therefore frequently utilized to recreate the appearance of very short clipped hairs (~0 to 1 clipper guard length). This can be very helpful for patients with a bald pattern of hair loss, who can wear their hair in a very short clipped/buzz cut style.

Female Pattern Hair Loss

No matter where you come from, it is highly desirable to have thick and full hair. The reality, however, is that many conditions lead to women suffering some form of hair loss. About 80% of women experience it by the time they reach 60 years of age. SMP can help you by increasing your hair density while matching your natural hair colour.

Scar Concealment

SMP is also very helpful as a form of medical micro pigmentation to conceal and improve scars: from hair restoration procedures (FUT and FUE scars), various surgeries involving the scalp, and scarring from other forms of trauma.

FUT Scar Camouflage

(Follicular Unit Transplant) If you’ve had one of these, you may have been left with noticeable linear scars. The scars from Follicular Unit Transplants are often relatively large, and without SMP will usually only be completely hidden if you let your hair grow fairly long to cover them.

FUE Scar Camouflage

(Follicular Unit Extraction) causes multiple ‘dot’ scars in the donor area that are less visible than FUT scars, but usually cover a wider area. Scalp micropigmentation is the perfect solution for these scars, and excellent results can be achieved

Alopicia

Alopecia is a medical condition that is the cause of many hair loss problems. There are different types of alopecia, but sadly, most are not curable. The condition tends to appear suddenly at any stage in life and is difficult to reverse. It is also widespread, with close to 150 million sufferers across the world.

The Benifits of Scalp Micropigmentation

Apart from being the only 100% safe and reliable hair treatment out there, there are several other benefits of scalp micro-pigmentation!

The Benifits of Scalp Micropigmentation

Apart from being the only 100% safe and reliable hair treatment out there, there are several other benefits of scalp micro-pigmentation!

Long Lasting Results

Scalp micro pigmentation makes use of pigment to create the illusion of the thickness of hair follicles, but it does not involve the actual use of ‘real hair’.  SMP results typically  last 5 to 6 years before the client requires a refresh. Because there isn’t any real hair on the scalp, there is also no need to purchase expensive hair styling creams or added hair products.

No Maintenance

Simply wash your scalp or shave and lotion it like you normally would. Scalpz Canada highly suggests protecting your investment by wearing SPF on your healed scalp when it is exposed to the UV from the sun. Just like traditional tattoos UV rays will fade your SMP faster.

Safe and Secure

Hair Transplants are often frowned upon and avoided by several people due to fears of surgical procedures, costs incurred and high failure rate associated to such treatments. The micropigmentation process requires no incisions, so there is no need for any cutting or surgical instruments. Unlike pills or surgeries, there are no side effecs with SMP and final results are predicatble. Our pigments are made out of water, alcohol and plant based carbon, so they are organic and vegan.

Not Painful

The process of micropigmentation is sometimes referred to as acupuncture for the scalp. This is because its process does not involve the breaking of the skin; instead, it works by integrating the pigmentation seamlessly with one’s skin tone with the use of small needles. High-level software and instruments help make the procedure as quick and painless as possible, with zero to low discomfort. Some cleints even fall asleep during the procedure!

Affordable

Scalp micropigmentation is relatively cheap as it does not involve any type of surgery or surgical equipment. SMP procedures range from $2000 to $4000 dollars. Hair transplants often cost upwards $20,000 per session.

No Downtime

Scalp micropigmentation has little to no recovery time; it does not involve any invasive procedures, so there’s no healing period; only a few days will suffice. The micropigmentation  only takes a few sessions to achieve a well-tattooed head. There are no wounds to heal or stitches to change in between these sessions, only a routine thorough cleaning of the scalp after.

Realistic Look

Scalp pigmentation hair loss treatment, when performed by a certified professional gives the impression of natural hair—providing near-perfect replication of the hair texture, colour, and skin tone producing a look of closely cropped hair. It helps add more density to thinning areas of the scalp where hair growth is stunted and parts of the hairline that are receded. The results of scalp micropigmentation also help cover imperfection on the scalp like scarring from incisions during surgery.

Youthful Appearance

There is a certain stereotype that goes along with hair loss and hair thinning; it is assumed that the sufferer is old or older than he/she is. This condition could sometimes lead to plummeting of self-esteem, one feels like others are staring at their bald spots and assuming they are ageing. It tends to look like everybody, but you has a full and thick head of hair, and this can be very disturbing. So micropigmentation helps boost the confidence of those suffering from pattern baldness, alopecia, and receding hairline.

If you have any specific questions not covered here please email your inquiries scalpzcanada@gmail.com or call us 905-622-5801

How long do the results last?

After completion of your treatment (3-4 sessions) a client should expect the strength of the color to last for many years. Over a longer term, a client will very gradually begin to notice slight lightening (without discoloration) of the treatment. When this occurs they can undergo a brief “touch up” session to restore any fading and secure many more years of their style.

How much does Scalp Micropigmentation cost?

Our pricing is based on the level of hair loss, which is different for each client. Typically, the price ranges between $2,000 – $4,000. We recommend setting up a free consultation so we can evaluate your case and provide a personalized price quote based on your hair loss needs.

Is scalp micropigmentation detectable?

Scalp micropigmentation has become such an effective hair loss solution because of its consistently natural and undetectable results. Scalpz Canada prides itself on the ability to seamlessly replicate each individual hair follicle to create a perfect match for each client.

What’s the downtime? Do I need to take time off work?

Scalp micropigmentation is non-invasive and requires no down time. In most cases, you will not need to take any extended time away from work, school, or other functions. After treatment it is common to notice slight redness on the scalp for 2-3 days post session. This redness subsides quickly and most clients return to work either right away or within a couple days. Clients are also allowed to wear hats or headwear should they feel the need.

How many treatments will I require?

Scalp micropigmentation should never be considered a one treatment process. Most clients can expect between 2-4 sessions to complete their treatment depending on the extent of hair loss or scarring. These treatments are usually spaced about 10-20 days apart.

How long does each session take?

The Scalp Micropigmentation treatment typically takes 2-5 hours per session depending on your degree of hair loss.

If I have hair left, can I leave it long?

Depending upon the pattern and extent of the thinning hair, some clients are able to maintain a longer length of hair. Scalp pigmentation can help thicken areas so that less of the scalp is seen showing through. However, if there is a strong pattern of hair loss or just not a lot of hair density left, the client is recommended to crop it shorter.

How do I choose the right hairline?

If you are unsure of what style or type of hairline will work for you, rest easy we are here to help!  With artistic experience on how to fit a hairline to head shape and age, we will help recommend what’s best. Over the course of your sessions you can also tweak and adjust the hairline for a perfect result.

Is SMP permanent?

Scalp Micropigmentation is a form of permanent cosmetics tattoo. Often referred to as a cosmetic hair or scalp tattoo, this treatment typically lasts 5-7 years. After that time, a client may experience some slight fading, to which they can come back in for a quick touch up. This cosmetic solution will not wash off but can be tweaked as years go on. We always recommend meeting with our team of experienced expert practitioners to discuss your treatment options.

Will it change color like tattoos?

No. Scalp micropigmentation is a form of permanent cosmetics, but unlike tattoo ink, the pigment is designed to fall within the same color spectrum of short cut hair. The pigment contains no additional colorants or additives and will only lighten, not discolor over an extended time.

Scalp micropigmentation also utilizes different equipment than traditional tattooing, ensuring the needle and machine are designed specifically for micropigmentation of the scalp.

Does SMP work with gray hair?

Yes, those with gray hair can still benefit from the scalp micropigmentation procedure. First, most clients are recommended to cut their hair to a short buzzed length. When this is done, gray hair does not appear as gray because the hair root itself is darker. Hair only shows gray as it gets longer. Second, we use a gray-scale pigment that can be adjusted in shade to blend with lighter hair tones. We simply create a lighter dilution for blending into the existing gray hairs.

If I am lighter or darker skin tone will this treatment still look good?

Yes! We are able to match the shade of our pigment to a wide range of skin tones. Whether you are Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic, Asian, or Pacific Islander and much more…scalp micropigmentation can work for you.

How long until I can sweat after the scalp micropigmentation treatment?

We recommend no heavy sweating or intense exercise for 4-5 days after your scalp micropigmentation treatment.

Does the scalp micropigmentation procedure hurt?

For most clients, the pain minimal and it’s consistently less painful than traditional tattoos. After your session, you won’t experience any further discomfort.

What equipment is used for a Scalp Micropigmentation procedure?

‘The equipment used for a scalp treatment is considered micropigmentation or “permanent cosmetic” equipment. There are many different brands and designs and equipment includes a digital power source, a hand-piece, and a disposable micro needles for the insertion of pigment. Most technicians of Scalp Micropigmentation use different equipment than standard tattoo artists to ensure the deposits are delicately placed at the appropriate depth in the skin.

How does Scalpz Canada ensure proper Sanitation?

Creating barriers & avoiding cross-contamination is an essential when tattooing and working with open skin. We use medical grade barrier film to wrap absolutely everything that cannot be properly disposed of afterwards i.e., the SMP machine, work space trays, antiseptic soap bottle, seat & seat adjustments, lights, pigment bottles, anesthetics etc. creating a barrier between these items and our gloves ensures cross contamination does not occur. If we need to break or touch something that has not been wrapped like a phone or bottle of water our gloves are removed and new gloves are reapplied before we begin again. All barrier film is disposed of after every client. All cartridge needles are pre packed, sterile, single use only and disposed of afterward every client in a hazardous sharps container. In addition to barrier film, we use medical grade disposable bed sheets and head rest wraps to ensure blood borne pathogens do not permeate through the barriers. Clean gloves and a mask are worn for every client. New pigment is also poured/formulated for every client and disposed of after each treatment. Scalpz Canada is inspected annually by Ontario’s Board of Health and always meets and exceeds their requirements .

Can I still use Propecia and/or Rogaine after my treatment?

Clients can continue using Propecia during and after their scalp pigmentation procedure. Rogaine (topical minoxidil) should be suspended during the course of treatment and for 30 days post your final session. This is to ensure the proper healing and settling of pigment without interference of the chemicals found in Rogaine foam.

What is the difference between scalp micropigmentation, hair tattoo, micropigmentation and scalp tattoo?

Scalp Micropigmentation is not just a traditional tattoo. SMP is a form of permanent cosmetics, but unlike tattooing or permanent makeup, the treatment replicates the look of short cut hair by using pointillism techniques. Scalp Micropigmentation utilizes different equipment than traditional tattooing, ensuring the needle and machine are designed specifically for micropigmentation of the scalp. There are three main differences between Scalp Micropigmentation vs. Tattooing:

1. We are depositing pigment into the skin at a shallower depth than tattoos, only about 2mm into the dermis

2. We are strictly making small micro dots through pointillism method, not shading or drawing lines

3. We use only a black pigment which is much more diluted than typical tattoo inks. For this reason, it won’t break down to different colors or look too saturated once it heals

How long until I can scrub, shampoo, or shave the smp treatment area?

We recommend no scrubbing, shampooing, or shaving over the treated area for 4-5 days after your scalp micropigmentation treatment.

Can I wear a hat after my scalp micropigmentation treatment?

Yes, you can wear a hat or a skullcap after your scalp micropigmentation treatment is complete. However, we hope you won’t be wearing them as much!

Can I go in the pool, sauna, or steam room after my scalp micropigmentation treatment?

We recommend you try to avoid chlorinated pools, saunas, steam rooms, and tanning beds for 28 days post final scalp micropigmentation session.

Will scalp micropigmentation grow my hair back?

No, the scalp micropigmentation treatment will not grow your hair back. However, the SMP treatment will give you the look of short hair or a tight buzz-cut. We recommend keeping your hair at a shorter length to create the most natural outcome.

Why can’t I see my scalp micropigmentation after a week?

After the first scalp micropigmentation session, your treatment will fade which is completely normal. In the second and third sessions, we add more density to create a fuller look. Pigment retention varies for each person and some may notice more fading that others.

Appointment Prep & Caring For Your SMP

Prepping for Your Appointment

Congratulations and thank you for choosing us for your micropigmentation procedure! We aim for total and complete satisfaction, so we want to provide you with the following instructions the week prior to your appointment.

Following these guidelines will ensure that you have prepared your scalp as best as possible to receive optimal results. If you have any questions, please contact us. We look forward to helping you through this process.

1. Wash you scalp with a non-abrasive, gentle shampoo the week prior to your procedure. We are not a medical establishment, so we are not allowed to suggest what to use for any problems or disorders, so please consult your physician or dermatologist if you are experiencing breakouts or other issues.

2. After washing the scalp, moisture the skin with some form of organic skin moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated. This will allow the pigment to be properly absorbed.

3. Avoid any sunlight that would cause burning or peeling of your skin.

4. Do not use sun tanning oil.

5. Focus on relaxing and getting a good night’s rest the night before your procedure.

6. Eat a hearty and healthy meal before your procedure.

7. If you are extremely sensitive to pain, seek medical advice prior to procedure.

8. You may bring a clean hat or scarf to loosely cover your head after the treatment if so desired but it is not recommended. For best results, leave the scalp uncovered.

9. For clients who use a hair piece, do not wear a hair piece at least 5-7 days prior to your scheduled procedure. It may limit oxygen flow to the scalp or irritate the skin, which will result in pigment not being fully absorbed.

10. Please ask your artist about proper hair length the day of the scheduled procedure.

11. Do not use a razor on you scalp within 24 hours of the scheduled procedure. It is critical that we see all native hair in order to properly blend the hair follicles.

Post Treatment Care

For 7-10 days (until area is completely healed) follow these instructions very closely. Failure to do so may result in colour loss or infection!

  1. We recommend refraining from washing your scalp for at least 4 days.
  2. Do not touch the healing pigmented area with your fingers, which may have bacteria on them and create an infection.
  3. Apply your favourite organic moisturizer 3-5 times daily until the procedure area has healed. Always use a clean cotton swab and not your fingertips.
  4. No make-up, sun, soap, sauna, jacuzzi, swimming, contact with animals, or gardening until the area is completely healed.
  5. Do not rub or traumatize the procedure area while it is healing (pigment may be removed along with crusting tissue).
  6. Do not use products that contain AHA’s (anti-aging creams) on the procedure area. (Examples: Glycolic acids, Lactic acids) Always check your product labeling.

2. Do not touch the healing pigmented area with your fingers, which may  have bacteria on them and create an infection

3. Apply your favourite organic moisturizer 3-5 times daily until the procedure area has healed. Always use a clean cotton swab and not your fingertips.

4. No make-up, sun, soap, sauna, jacuzzi, swimming, contact with animals, or gardening until the area is completely healed.

5. Do not rub or traumatize the treatment area while it is healing (pigment may be removed along with crusting tissue).

6. Do not use products that contain AHA’s (anti-aging creams) on the procedure area. (Examples: Glycolic acids, Lactic acids) Always check your product labeling.

7. Before bathing, gently apply a light coating of organic moisturizer on the procedure area using a clean cotton swab. Continue this regiment until the procedure area is healed.

8. You may cover your scalp with a loose cap or scarf, but it is not recommended. For best results, leave the scalp uncovered until fully healed.

9. ONCE Healed use “50-60 SPF” on the procedure area to prevent pigment colour from fading.

10. If you are a blood donor, you may not give blood for one year following your SMP , according to the Red Cross. (As this technically falls under their category of Permanenet Makeup application)

*If you experience itching, swelling, blistering or any other complications, stop using product and call your technician immediately. You may be allergic to the post-care product you are using!

*If you have excessive redness, swelling or tenderness, or any red streaks going from the procedure site toward the heart, elevated temperature, or purulent drainage from the procedure site, contact your physician. The area may be infected, and you may need to seek medical care.

*Any touch up appointments should be scheduled within 10-45 days post procedure. All Scalp Micropigmentation procedures are a multi-step process. Results are not determined until all touch-up applications are completed as outlined in your initial consultation.
